Ecological Jurisprudence: Alessandro Pelizzon

 

Dr Alessandro Pelizzon completed his LLB/LLM (Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza) in Italy, with a specialisation in comparative law and legal anthropology. His PhD research, on native title and legal pluralism in the Illawarra, was conducted through and completed at the University of Wollongong.

Alessandro's primary area of research is the emerging discourse on rights of nature, Wild Law and Earth Jurisprudence. His main interest lays at the intersection between this discourse and different legal ontologies, with a particular focus on Indigenous legal structures.

Alessandro has been involved in Indigenous rights for 20 years, firstly by participating in and supporting the drafting of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Geneva and then through his Doctoral thesis. He is one of the founding members of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature, of the Australian Earth Law Alliance. Alessandro's main areas of expertise are comparative law, legal anthropology, legal theory, Indigenous rights and ecological jurisprudence.
